The WisdomTree MoonPay collaboration announced on September 17, 2026 has two halves, and the quieter one is more interesting. WisdomTree is building an access point for WTGXX, its tokenised Treasury money market fund, on MoonPay’s platform, which the companies say reaches more than 35 million accounts and 1,700 partners. MoonPay also plans to hold WTGXX as part of its own stablecoin reserve management.
Two Deals in One Announcement

The distribution piece gives WisdomTree a retail channel beyond its own broker-dealer, WisdomTree Securities. The reserve piece makes MoonPay a balance sheet customer rather than just a storefront. Both matter, but the reserve side is the one that tells you where tokenised funds are actually finding demand today.
“Money moves differently today, and investing needs to keep pace,” said Jonathan Steinberg, founder and chief executive of WisdomTree. “Stablecoins are reshaping how people and businesses both hold and move value, and working with MoonPay as an access point can give eligible US investors another path to deploy their assets into WTGXX.”
Who Actually Buys Tokenized Treasury Funds
Tokenised Treasury products have grown quickly on paper and narrowly in practice. The buyers so far have mostly been crypto-native treasuries, market makers, decentralised organisations and stablecoin issuers looking for yield-bearing collateral that settles onchain rather than sitting in a bank account that closes at 5pm. BlackRock’s BUIDL and Franklin Templeton’s BENJI captured most of that early flow.
WisdomTree has been at this longer than either, pushing tokenised funds since 2022 through WisdomTree Connect and its Prime consumer app, with comparatively little retail traction for the effort. That history is the context for this announcement. Here is a company that built the product and is now renting someone else’s distribution to find the customer.
What the WisdomTree MoonPay Deal Gives a Retail Investor
The unspoken question is what a retail investor gains from a tokenised money market fund rather than a plain one. The honest answer today is very little, unless they already hold crypto and want to move idle stablecoin balances into yield without exiting to fiat. That is a real use case. It is also a narrow one, and citing 35 million MoonPay accounts implies a far wider addressable market than the product currently serves.
The reserve arrangement is where the attention belongs. If MoonPay parks a meaningful share of stablecoin reserves in WTGXX, WisdomTree gains sticky institutional assets under management and MoonPay earns yield on float it was likely running through a bank partner before. That is a straightforward improvement for both sides, and it is the pattern that has driven most tokenised Treasury growth to date. Retail distribution is the headline because it sounds bigger. Reserve management is what will show up in the asset figures.
Note the Hedged Verbs
Read the announcement closely and nothing has actually launched. WisdomTree “plans to provide” the access point, MoonPay “plans to use” WTGXX in reserves, and MoonPay’s blockchain technology “is expected to support” the integration. This is an intention to build, disclosed as a collaboration.
The wider stablecoin infrastructure market is moving faster than the tokenised fund market it is supposed to feed, as seen in Circle pairing an agent marketplace API with a faster USDC funding rail and in Block applying for a national trust charter to custody stablecoins. Distribution is catching up to plumbing, slowly.
Watch for a live launch date and for disclosure of how much of MoonPay’s reserve sits in WTGXX. The second number is the one that matters.
What to Watch Next on the WisdomTree MoonPay Deal
The number that matters is how much of MoonPay’s stablecoin reserve actually moves into WTGXX, and neither company has committed to publishing it. Watch for three things. A live launch date for the retail access point, since everything announced here is still framed as a plan. Any disclosure of WTGXX assets under management before and after the integration, which would show whether the reserve allocation is material or token. And whether other stablecoin issuers follow MoonPay into third-party tokenised funds rather than managing reserves through bank deposits and direct Treasury holdings. If they do, the WisdomTree MoonPay structure becomes a template. If they do not, this stays a single distribution deal with a useful balance sheet attached.
