Grove Centrifuge stake news landed on August 25. The onchain credit protocol allocates institutional money into tokenized real-world assets. It has taken an initial position of 37.8 million CFG tokens in Centrifuge, the tokenization platform underneath its deployments.
Scale matters here, and the token count alone does not convey it. CFG trades around $0.1391 against a market capitalisation near $53 million. So 37.8 million tokens is worth roughly $5 million. Grove has already deployed more than $1.27 billion through Centrifuge infrastructure. Against that, the Grove Centrifuge stake equals about four tenths of one percent of the capital at risk.
The Grove Centrifuge Stake Is Small in Dollars, Large in Governance
Both readings of the Grove Centrifuge stake hold at once, which is what makes it interesting. With roughly 380 million CFG in circulation, 37.8 million tokens represents close to 10 percent of circulating supply. It is a smaller share of the 680 million total supply.
So Grove bought a meaningful governance voice for a sum that barely registers against its own exposure. That is alignment rather than control, and it is insurance in the most literal sense. A protocol routing $1.27 billion through someone else’s infrastructure has obvious reason to want a say in how it evolves.
Context on the token helps too. CFG reached roughly $0.40 during August 2025 and bottomed near $0.067 in February 2026 amid a broad drawdown. It has since recovered to current levels. Measured against the pre-migration token’s 2021 peak, the price is down roughly 90 percent across the full cycle. So the Grove Centrifuge stake buys into infrastructure it relies on rather than recent price strength.
The Grove Centrifuge Stake Follows a Sharp Fund Drawdown
Concentration deserves more scrutiny than either company gives it. Behind the Grove Centrifuge stake sits a concrete example rather than a hypothetical.
JAAA, the Janus Henderson AAA CLO fund, was seeded with a $1 billion allocation from Grove and passed $1 billion in total value locked. It then fell sharply to a platform-reported figure near $416 million. Independent researchers described that as roughly a 42 percent drawdown inside a single month, the sharpest single-fund swing among Centrifuge’s flagship products.
That is the concentration risk materialising. When one allocator seeds a fund at that scale, its reported value tracks that allocator’s decisions rather than broad demand. Consequently, the Grove Centrifuge stake formalises a dependency running in both directions. Grove needs the infrastructure, and Centrifuge’s headline numbers need Grove.
Apollo’s ACRDX shows the same shape. It launched with a $50 million anchor from Grove. Minting ran primarily on Plume, with access restricted to non-US accredited investors.
Grove Centrifuge Stake Figures Need Attribution
Growth numbers in this category move fast, so sourcing matters. The tokenized real-world asset market has expanded from about $12 billion in June 2025 to more than $38 billion. Independent trackers corroborate that range.
Centrifuge’s own total value locked is harder to pin down. The announcement puts it at $1.64 billion. Independent coverage during mid-2026 described TVL oscillating nearer $500 million, depending on which pools were active. Either the platform grew substantially over the summer, or the two figures measure different things. Readers should treat the higher number as the company’s own.
What is not disputed is Centrifuge’s position. Launched in 2018, it ranks among the five largest fund tokenization platforms by asset value. It also sits with Maple Finance and Ondo as one of three RWA platforms past $1 billion in cumulative tokenization volume. Its V3 protocol runs across eight networks including Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Solana and BNB Chain.
What to Watch After the Grove Centrifuge Stake
Broadening is the number to track. Whether Centrifuge total value locked grows beyond its current set of large institutional allocators is the test. Two quarters should show whether this is a durable market or the same capital cycling through a small group of protocols.
Watch the governance mechanics too. In November 2025, Centrifuge approved a structure giving the Centrifuge Network Foundation governance and oversight responsibilities. The DAO retains its own role alongside it. What a 10 percent circulating holder can influence under that arrangement is worth understanding before treating the Grove Centrifuge stake as decisive.
Finally, watch whether Grove adds to the position. The word initial appears in its own description, which implies more to come. A second tranche would say considerably more about conviction than the first.
