Coinbase, the Nasdaq-listed US crypto exchange, began supporting Ripple’s RLUSD dollar stablecoin on 28 October 2026 across Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and its retail app, with 1:1 conversion from US dollars and other supported dollar stablecoins, according to Ripple’s announcement. By Fintechbits’ count, Coinbase RLUSD support is the third US platform integration for Ripple’s stablecoin that Fintechbits has covered in October 2026, after Cross River’s banking core on 16 October and Robinhood on 28 October.
What the Coinbase RLUSD deal includes
Coinbase RLUSD access covers spot trading and conversion for retail and institutional clients, plus custody through Coinbase Prime. Users can deposit and withdraw RLUSD on three networks, the XRP Ledger, Base and Ethereum, and Ripple will provide liquidity on Base. Availability for Coinbase Global Exchange customers, including using RLUSD as collateral, will follow, with no date given.
RLUSD launched in December 2024 and has passed $2.6 billion in market capitalisation, Ripple says. The coin is backed by dollar deposits, short-term US Treasuries and other cash equivalents.
The notable detail is the 1:1 conversion from other dollar stablecoins. Coinbase has a long commercial tie to Circle’s USDC, so offering direct swaps into a competing stablecoin shows how far the exchange has moved toward listing whatever its institutional clients ask for. Brett Tejpaul, co-CEO of Coinbase Institutional, calls it a step toward “the everything exchange”.
Ripple’s pitch is about reach. Jack McDonald, Ripple’s senior vice president of stablecoins, says the deal brings RLUSD “to the largest institutional client base in the U.S. crypto market”. For Ripple, the Coinbase RLUSD listing fills the biggest gap in its US distribution: RLUSD was already on Robinhood, Binance, Kraken and OKX, but institutions that custody and trade at Coinbase had no direct route in. The collateral piece matters most. A stablecoin that can be posted as margin on a large derivatives venue earns steady demand that does not depend on retail trading, and that is where the Coinbase RLUSD deal will be judged.
