Adyen, the Amsterdam-listed payments platform, reported net revenue of EUR 738.1 million for the third quarter of 2026, up 23% from a year earlier (22% at constant currency), on processed volume of EUR 451.1 billion, up 30%, in its Adyen Q3 2026 business update on 28 October 2026. Fintechbits compared the Adyen Q3 2026 update with Adyen’s H1 2026 results of 13 August, which said “We continue to expect EBITDA margin above 55% by 2028”; the October update drops that medium-term objective and guides to a 50% margin for 2026. Adyen says it is accelerating investment to capture merchant demand for its payments, loyalty and billing products.
What the Adyen Q3 2026 update reported
Growth sped up. In the first half of 2026, Adyen’s net revenue rose 19% to EUR 1,302.9 million, according to its H1 2026 results. In the Adyen Q3 2026 numbers the reported rate is 23%. Part of that comes from Talon. One and Orb, the loyalty and usage-based billing companies Adyen acquired on 1 July 2026, which count toward the third quarter but not the first half.
Every segment grew in the Adyen Q3 2026 figures. Digital net revenue reached EUR 387.4 million, up 16%. Unified Commerce, which combines online and in-store payments, reached EUR 250.5 million, up 29%. Platforms, the business that serves marketplaces and software companies that embed payments, was the fastest-growing at EUR 100.2 million, up 46%. Embedded payments was one of the busiest themes in Fintechbits’ State of Fintech Q3 2026 review, and the Adyen Q3 2026 platforms number shows who is collecting the revenue.
Adyen kept its 2026 net revenue growth guidance of 21% to 23% at constant currency, the range it set in August. Capital expenditure is expected at 7% of net revenue in 2026, after Adyen pulled data centre spending forward from 2027.
The new customers and products
In the Adyen Q3 2026 update, Adyen named GetYourGuide, LillyDirect, Tod’s and Toast among enterprise customers it scaled with in the quarter. It upgraded Authenticate, its identity and authentication product, which it says has produced double-digit conversion gains. It joined the European Central Bank’s digital euro pilot as an acquiring payment service provider, and it worked with Sierra and Meta on the Personal Agent Protocol, a proposed standard for how AI agents interact with businesses.
The finance team is in transition. Adyen has nominated Niclas Neglen, Klarna’s departing chief financial officer, as CFO from 1 February 2027, a move Fintechbits covered on 20 October. Hwa Tsao is interim CFO.

Why dropping the margin target matters more than the revenue beat
Adyen built its market reputation on two things: fast growth and very high margins without the need to trade one for the other. The Adyen Q3 2026 update keeps the growth and gives up the promise on margins. Co-CEO Ingo Uytdehaage says merchant response to Talon. One and Orb justifies accelerating investment “across the business”. That may be right, but scrapping a target about eleven weeks after reaffirming it tells investors the 2028 number was no longer credible under the new spending plan.
The 50% margin guide for 2026 is also a step down from what Adyen signalled in August, when it said the 2026 margin, including acquisitions, would land one percentage point below 2025. Investors will now model Adyen as a company in a spending phase, closer to a growth platform than a cash machine.
The strategic logic holds up. Platforms revenue up 46% shows Adyen winning the embedded payments business that many rivals are chasing, and loyalty plus billing gives it more to sell to each enterprise merchant. The risk is that Adyen enters a period where the margin is set by management’s appetite to invest, not by the scale economics that used to define it. Adyen says it remains confident in the scale economics of its model “over time”, which is not a number.

What to Watch Next
The February 2027 results are the decisive event. Watch whether Adyen restores any multi-year margin objective, or switches to a growth-only framework, and how much of the extra spending goes to headcount versus data centres. The other number to follow is platforms revenue: if it keeps growing above 40% a quarter, the case for sacrificing margin in 2026 gets much stronger.
